Tofu skin is a traditional soy product made from premium yellow soybeans. Through steps such as soaking, grinding, heating, and lifting the formed film, the soybeans are transformed into thin, golden sheets rich in plant-based protein and nutrients. So how is this delicate sheet produced? Shuangqiang Bean Products walks you through the process.
1. Selecting the Raw Materials
The first step is choosing high-quality soybeans. The best beans are plump, evenly colored, free of mold, and undamaged. These beans contain more protein, which directly affects the texture and yield of the final product. Our company strictly selects premium soybeans to ensure consistent quality.

2. Soaking and Cleaning
Before processing, the soybeans must be thoroughly soaked so they absorb water and soften.
Soaking serves three purposes:
It softens the beans, making them easier to grind.
It helps reduce the raw bean aroma.
It promotes protein extraction, increasing the yield of the bean curd skin film.
After soaking, the soybeans are rinsed carefully to remove impurities and loose skins.
3. Grinding
The softened beans are ground with water using either a traditional stone mill or a modern grinding machine. The finer the resulting soy milk, the smoother and more elastic the bean curd skin will be.

4. Heating the Soy Milk
When the soy milk is heated, its proteins and fats slowly rise to the surface and form a thin film-this is the bean curd skin.
Key points during heating:
Maintain a stable temperature, typically between 80–95°C.
Avoid excessively high heat, which can disrupt the film-forming process.
Keep the soy milk still so the surface remains undisturbed.
5. Film Formation and Lifting
Once a golden film forms on the surface, workers gently lift it using bamboo sticks to keep the sheet intact.
The lifted bean curd skin is then hung to dry naturally. This allows excess moisture to evaporate, giving the product its ideal softness and flexibility.

6. Drying or Cooling
Depending on the desired product type, bean curd skin can be finished in two forms:
Fresh bean curd skin: soft and elastic, suitable for hotpot, cold dishes, and stir-fries.
Dried bean curd skin: contains less moisture, stores well, and requires soaking before use.
7. Packaging
We use food-grade, moisture-resistant packaging materials to protect the bean curd skin during transport and storage. Proper packaging enhances shelf stability and ensures hygiene and safety.
